Jerry L. Stokes

Age 84, of Canton South went to his heavenly home to be with his Lord, family and friends on Wednesday, October 3, 2018. Born July 1, 1934 in North Industry, Ohio to the late Harvey F. “Ching” and Alice J. (Heacock) Stokes. Jerry was a life resident of the Canton South area and a 1952 graduate of Canton South High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as an instructor on Nike and Hercules guided missile ground to air defense system. Jerry worked at Republic Steel and retired from Sears. He was a member of North Industry Christian Church and American Legion Post #44, Canton. Jerry enjoyed playing and watching golf, fishing and camping. Preceded in death by three brothers, Tom, Harvey and Ron Stokes; two brothers-in-law, Brandon Blum and Peter Garrison; a sister-in-law, Nan Stokes. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara A. (Garrison) Stokes; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Allen and Julie Stokes of Columbus, OH; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Chris Boerner of Massillon, OH; two step grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Jane Stokes of Canton, Margaret Garrison of Alliance, Norma Blum of Lilburn, GA, Elsie Stokes of North Canton; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Monday, Oct. 8, 2018 at 11:00 am in North Industry Christian Church with Stephen Kimbrel officiating. Entombment in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 2 – 4 pm in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on South Cleveland Ave. and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church from 10 – 11 am. Memorial donations may be made to Wounded Warriors, USO, Salvation Army, of a charity of your choice.
