Carolyn K. Shearer, 81, of East Canton, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2026, following the loss of her husband, Russell Eugene “Gene” Shearer, on April 8, 2026. Her passing reflects the deep love and devotion she shared with Gene throughout their wonderful lives together.

She was born on January 31, 1945, in Canton, Ohio, to the late William Ralph and Mary Evelyn (Jones) Ickes. Carolyn was a proud graduate of Sandy Valley High School.

Carolyn, like her husband Gene, was a devoted member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Waynesburg, where the two were united in marriage. She dedicated her early years to being a loving stay-at-home mother, raising her children with care and devotion and a wooden spoon. Once her children were raised, she began her career at Aultman Hospital, where she worked in the Accounts Receivable Department before transitioning to the Medical Records Department.

To know Carolyn was to know her deep love for her family and community. Her greatest joy came from her children, grandchildren, and the time spent surrounded by loved ones. She cherished family vacations, especially her annual trips to Myrtle Beach. Carolyn also shared many of Gene’s passions, including NASCAR, the Buckeye Corvette Club, and visits to Lake Mohawk. She enjoyed snowmobiling and boating, embracing life’s adventures alongside her husband. She also found great happiness in life’s simple pleasures, especially baking on Saturdays, tending to her garden, and canning. Above all, Carolyn’s greatest passion was the love she held for Gene—a bond that remained unbreakable.

In addition to her parents, and her husband Gene she preceded in death by her sisters-in-law, Marilyn Shearer and Chris Shearer and brother-in-law Renny Patterson

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Darla (Ty Gowins) Salvino; her son, Dave (Kim) Shearer; her grandson, Kyle Goodwill; her granddaughters, Tara Goodwill and Kylie Shearer; sisters Kathleen Patterson, Janet (Gary) Kail; brother Ralph (Rose) Ickes Brother in laws, Richard Shearer and Don Shearer; nephews, Rod (Christine) Shearer, Todd (Amy) Shearer, Donny (Morgan) Shearer Jr.

Family and friends may gather for visitation, held concurrently with her husband Gene, on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sanders Funeral Home, 218 E. Nassau St., East Canton, and again on Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev.
