Charles L. Vickers

October 25, 1944 — August 14, 2023

Canton, Ohio

With deep sadness, we share the news of the passing of Charles L. Vickers, a beloved soul who journeyed through life with grace and strength. At the age of 78, on Monday, August 14, 2023, Charles found peace at Aultman Hospital after bravely battling an extended illness. His life's journey began on October 25, 1944, in Canton, Ohio, as he was welcomed into the world by his parents, the late June (Kellner) Cass and Charles F. Vickers.

Charles's story is one of dedication and service, woven with threads of commitment and valor. After graduating from Jackson High School in 1962, he embarked on a life of purpose. The call of duty led him to the United States Air Force, where he selflessly served two tours during the tumultuous era of the Vietnam War. It was during this time that he honed his skills in advanced computer training, a testament to his unwavering pursuit of excellence. Following his military service, he received his Baccalaureate Degree from Arizona State University.

After his military service, Charles returned to his roots in Canton, Ohio, where he carved out a distinguished career. His contributions to the Stark County Clerk of Courts office and his role as the Director of the Stark County Data Processing Center showcased his dedication and expertise. Charles's tireless efforts continued until his well-deserved retirement in December of 2022.

As we remember Charles, we hold close those who were most precious to him. His devoted wife of 44 years, Jacqueline (Slish) Vickers, stood by his side through life's joys and challenges. Together, they nurtured a loving family that included his daughter Heather Frank, sons Aaron (Melissa), Nicholas, and Douglas (Nicole) Vickers. The light of his life, his grandchildren Samantha Hornus, Amanda Wontor, Olivia, Jaxson, Nolan, and Owen Vickers, and his great-granddaughter Rae Rene’, filled his days with boundless joy.

Charles's legacy extends through the bonds of family, including his brother Michael Vickers and numerous nieces and nephews, who shared in his journey and cherished his presence.

The memory of Charles L. Vickers will be honored during a visitation on Friday, August 18, 2023, at the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home from 5 pm to 7 pm. A poignant farewell will follow at 7 pm, with Pastor Danny Grine officiating, gathering family and friends to reflect upon a life well-lived.

In celebration of Charles's passion for compassion, we invite you to make memorial donations in his name to the Humane Society of Stark County, a cause that resonated deeply with him. Contributions can be sent to 5100 Peach St NE, Louisville, OH 44641.

Arrangements have been thoughtfully entrusted to the care of Kreighbaum Sanders Funeral Home, located at 4041 Cleveland Ave S. Canton, OH 44707. Fond memories and condolences can be shared here as we collectively hold Charles's memory close to our hearts.
