Dorothy “Dot” Louise Jolliff
Age 82, of Canton, Ohio, died November 30, 2021, in Powell, Ohio after a lengthy illness. Born in Hiawassee, GA on January 29, 1939 to the late Ruth and Henry Beck. Dot was preceded in death by her sister, Dora Jean Beck and brothers, Dale and Doyle Beck. She is survived by her son, Dr. Heath Jolliff (Ryan Jones) of Columbus, Ohio, and her former husband, Jerry (Nancy) Jolliff of Malvern, OH. A 1957 graduate of Canton South High School. Dot worked as a secretary at the Timken Company and the West Stark Center, where she retired in 2008. An avid gardener, Dot spent hours tending the flowers and yard of her immaculate home. She was a talented oil painter, and like her son, loved rescuing stray animals, including her beloved cat Susie, who lived for more than 20 years. She was fond of her daily walks in the local park and was kind to those less fortunate than she, especially the neighborhood children. Later in life, as her mental health declined, Dot could often be found at the local thrift store or garage sales, acquiring a treasure trove of knickknacks and all sorts of “collectibles,” which she carefully wrapped, organized, and stored in her basement. A lover of hot sauce, Twizzlers, and fast food, she was a familiar face at many local restaurants near her home. Though Dot was fiercely independent, everyone needs a little help from time to time. So, her family would like to thank her Third Street N.W. neighbors in Canton who watched out for her, and her caregivers from Capital City Hospice and the Ganzhorn Suites in Powell, where she lived for the last several years. Calling hours will be held at the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home in Canton on Saturday, December 11th, from 2 - 4 PM; a private interment will follow. In place of flowers, donations can be made to the Stark County Humane Society (starkhumane.org) or the Ohio Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (namiohio.org).
