Evelyn Maier

Beloved Evelyn Maier passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on February 5, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 27, 1933 in Canton to the late Nick and Beulah (Fisher) Kortis.  Evelyn was a 1951 graduate of Canton McKinley High School where she excelled in basketball, softball and as a cheerleader.  Evelyn lived a full and vibrant life marked by her unwavering kindness, generosity, and the profound impact she had on those around her.

Evelyn dedicated her life to her family, friends, and the community, always putting others before herself. She was known for her compassionate spirit, infectious laughter, and an unparalleled ability to make everyone feel loved and valued. Evelyn was a pillar of strength and wisdom, guiding her family with love and grace.

Before retiring, Evelyn had a distinguished career in Human Resources and led the management team at Fisher’s Foods. For over 20 years, she was respected for her leadership and unwavering dedication. In retirement, Evelyn was a voracious reader and divided her time between her homes in East Canton and Deltona, Florida. Her passion for golf was also evident, showcasing her active and engaged lifestyle.

Evelyn was predeceased by her husband of 37 years, Al Maier (2018), two brothers: John Kortis, 2004 (Rosa Lee, 2000), Jim Kortis, 2016 (Janet, 2019), a sister, Nancy Gates, [1989] (Blackie, 1984) and her first husband, Dick Parris (1973), stepdaughter Diane Forsyth, stepson David Maier, and niece, Beth Ann Kortis (2020).  She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her stepson Tim (Denise) Maier, son in law James Forsyth, 2 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 11 nieces and nephews, 23 great nieces and nephews and 15 great-great nieces and nephews along with countless friends and relatives across multiple continents who were touched by her extraordinary life.

Calling hours for Evelyn will be from 2:00 pm. to 4:00 pm on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at Sanders Funeral Home and at 10 am. to 11am. on Monday, February 12, 2024 at St. Stephens Martyr Lutheran Church located at  930 S Nickelplate St, Louisville, OH 44641  A service will take place at the church starting at 11 am. with Pastor Bruce Roth officiating.  Please join family and friends after at the church to share in remembering her remarkable journey through life.

Though Evelyn has completed her time on Earth, she remains with us.  Just as another lovely Rose has departed from our beautiful garden she will always be here, busy, watching over us…  From Robert Frost:  “...These woods are lovely dark and deep… but I have miles to go before I sleep…”

For those that have been touched by Evelyn, with her spirit to guide us, in every endeavor we undertake, we will leave a lasting impression of her guidance, leadership, and compassion. Her legacy will resonate in every act of kindness, every moment of strength, and every gesture of love, whispering to the world, "This is me."  She will be deeply missed.
