He was born on June 6, 1940, in Canton to the late Myron and Sarah (Chaney) Darrah.
George was a graduate of East Canton High School and Kent State University. He proudly served his country honorably in the United States Army. George’s working career started at his father’s business, Darrah Lumber Co. He went on to own and operate several automotive-related businesses in East Canton, including 31 years at NAPA Auto Parts. George spent 11 years teaching auto mechanics at Canton South, GlenOak, and Hudson High Schools. He continued to operate Machine Specialties until his illness. He served both as a member of the East Canton Village Council and as Mayor.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Denise (Mark) Mosley, William (Kim) Darrah; grandchildren, Rob (Amanda) Smith, Chuck Smith, Nick Darrah, Ben Teitelbaum, Rachel Darrah, Connor (Alex) Mosley, Cynthia Galbraith; great-grandchildren, Lincoln Smith, Brooklyn Smith, Naevia Mosley, Jameson Mosley, Charlie Mosley, Colton Galbraith, Beau Galbraith; sister, Joyce (Tom) Huberty.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Blose) Darrah, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage; brother, David Darrah.
Visitation will be Friday, October 20, 2023, 5-7 p.m. in the Sanders Funeral Home, and on Saturday, October 21, 2023, 10-10:30 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. George will be laid to rest with military honors in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens.
