Gerald "Jerry' F. Oberly

Gerald “Jerry” F. Oberly, 83, of East Canton, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 29, 2026, surrounded by his loving daughters following an extended illness. He was born on January 6, 1943, in East Canton to the late Othur F. and Geneva M. (Williamson) Oberly.

Jerry was a lifelong resident of East Canton and a 1961 graduate of East Canton High School. He was raised in the 11th Street Church of God and later attended the East Canton Church of God throughout his life. Jerry retired from American Electric Power following 41 years of service. He also worked for Stark County Internal Medicine, Inc., for 22 years.

Jerry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He cherished the time spent with his family and will be remembered for the love and care he gave to those around him.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Sandra Lea (Cable) Oberly; brothers, Lowell Dean Oberly and Dale Oberly; and sisters, Frances Long, Marilyn Schwall, and Evelyn Walker.

He is survived by his two daughters, Rhonda (Gary) Fleischman of East Sparta and Dr. Julie Oberly of East Canton; twin grandchildren, Zachary and Rachel Fleischman; sisters, Bonnie Weinstock and Karen (Arthur) Maxwell; and brother, David (Elizabeth) Oberly.

Friends and family may call on Friday, September 4, 2026, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. and again on Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 12:00–1:00 p.m. at Sanders Funeral Home. Jerry’s funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, with Pastor Mark Hunt officiating. Burial will follow at Mapleton Cemetery, where Jerry will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Sandra.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jerry’s memory to the Osnaburg Historical Society’s Mapleton Museum, 131 E. Nassau St., East Canton, OH 44730.
