Gerry E. Pennell, peacefully departed on February 3, 2024, at St. Joseph Care Center. Gerry was born on September 18, 1939, in Canton, Ohio, to the late Edward E. Pennell and Peggy Lookabaugh. A longtime resident of East Canton, he dedicated 35 years of service to UPS, excelling as both a delivery driver and at the company’s customer service center.
Gerry's commitment extended beyond his professional life; he served honorably in the United States Army and played a pivotal role as the Youth Pastor at Central Baptist Church in Canton, Ohio. His passion for music led him to contribute to the church choir, a role he relished. In the community, Gerry took delight in coaching youth in basketball and football, sharing his love for sports.
Softball, fishing, and participating in a bowling league brought immense joy to Gerry's life. However, his most cherished moments were spent train spotting with his beloved grandchildren. Gerry is preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Mary Papuska, and brother-in-law Bob Shott.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Iva May (Ehler) Pennell, whom he married in July of 1960. Gerry's legacy lives on through his son and daughter-in-law, Dan (Kelly) Pennell; grandson Alec (Sarah) Pennell, and granddaughters Amelia and Alexis Pennell. He is also survived by his sisters and brother-in-law Patty Shott and Elaine (Jim) Weber, brother, and sister-in-law Eddie (Linda) Pennell, and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours for Gerry will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2024, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm at the Sanders funeral home, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 pm. Interment will take place at Sunset Hills Burial Park.
