James E. Fliger
Age 77, of Bolivar, passed away Tuesday June 7, 2022 following an extended illness. He was born July 8, 1944 to the late Kenneth and Dorothy (Hoffman) Fliger. Jim was a 1963 graduate of Canton South High School followed by a degree from the IBEW Local 540 serving as a Journeyman Electrician in 1968. Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served with the Seabees as an E-5 sergeant of the electrical unit while stationed in Vietnam, Okinawa and the Aleutian Islands. He was a member of The Church of the Holy Trinity. Jim enjoyed teaching his sons to hunt and fish at the Bolivar Sportsman’s Club. He enjoyed boating and fishing with his family at Atwood Lake. He preferred to be outdoors in the garden getting the vegetables ready to can or picking local berries with his brother-in-law, John Thompson. Not one to sit still, he worked on many projects around his home and helped many other family members. He proudly taught his children how to maintain their vehicles. In 1968 he married the former Darlene Zagan of Canton and celebrated 54 years of marriage. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Judy (Glenn) O’Connor; brothers and sister-in-law, Kenneth “Bud” (Janice) Fliger, Bob and Richard “Dick” Fliger. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Kathy (Mike) Shoffner; two sons, Adam (Lacey) Fliger and Andrew (Lanette) Fliger; granddaughter, Alexis Fliger; two sisters, Gerri (John) Thompson and Mary (Dan) Lambert; two sisters-in-law, Sandy and Kay Fliger. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday June 10, 2022 at 1:00pm in the Church of the Holy Trinity at 1835 Dover Zoar Rd NE, Bolivar, OH 44612, with Fr. Tomas Carvajal y Basto as celebrant.
