Janyth E. Cooley-Akers

Janyth E. Cooley-Akers, age 82, passed away on April 15, 2026, in Murrell Inlet, South Carolina. She was born in Canton, Ohio on October 4, 1943, to the late Edith (Hookway) Cooley.

Jan moved from the Canton area to Pawleys Island, South Carolina where she lived with her beloved husband, John Akers, for 13 years. She was a step mother to John “Will” Akers and Kathryn Ann Douglas.

Jan earned her Master’s Degree in History Education and devoted over 30 years to teaching young people for the Canton City School district. Jan attended Westbrook Park United Methodist Church in Canton, Ohio for a number of years alongside her husband and her mother, Edith Cooley.

Jan is survived by her husband and step children.

Family and friends may visit on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home, 4041 Cleveland Avenue S, Canton, Ohio 44707. Her funeral service will begin at 11a.m. with Pastor Jan Walsh officiating. She will then be laid to rest at Melscheimer Cemetery in East Sparta, Ohio.
