Jerry Schaffer passed away on Sunday, March 16, after a brief illness. Jerry was born to Mary and Hobert Schaffer on October 18, 1948, in Parkersburg, W.V.
He is preceded in death by Brian Scott, his parents, and brothers, Tom and Bud. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 56 years, Pat (Gorham); sister Bea Brown; his pride and joy, children Karen Vrabec (Jay) and Keith (Jordan); grandchildren Rachel Erickson (Keith), George “Joe” Vrabec III (Jamin), Gabe Jones, Kyle Schaffer, Gillian Jones, and Penn Schaffer; and great-grandchildren Mason Joseph, Kasen and Elaine Vrabec; along with his sister-in-law, brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Jerry graduated from Barberton High School and completed a machinist apprenticeship. Through hard work and dedication, he earned multiple certifications and degrees while at ARES Inc. and retired from Ewart Ohlson Manufacturing.
Jerry proudly coached his children in T-ball and was an avid Ohio State football fan. The family moved to Catawba Island, where they embraced lake life, hosting fishing trips and fish fries for family and friends. Jerry enjoyed stock car racing, gardening, and hunting. Pat and Jerry shared a love for travel, including memorable trips to Hawaii and Nova Scotia. A very loving and appreciative man, Jerry delighted in sharing a good joke and often finished a thought with a few lines from a familiar song.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, from 5:00 - 7:00pm, at Sanders Funeral Home. Honoring Jerry’s wishes, a private burial will be held at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jerry’s memory to the Stark County Humane Society, 5100 Peach St NE, Louisville, OH 44641.
Arrangements are entrusted to Sanders Funeral Home, 218 E. Nassau St., East Canton, OH 44730. Family and friends may offer condolences and share memories at:
