Joseph Mozie

Age 95 of Canton South passed away Sunday December 12, 2021 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born June 3, 1926 in Moundsville, WV to the late Louis and Mary (Tamburin) Mozie. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the USS William Seiverling, a DE441 in the Pacific Theater. Joseph began a musical career while a teenager with his uncle on the radio; his career lasted throughout his life playing and singing with musical groups, including his own band with his son, Robert. Joseph had resided in Sandyville for 17 years while working at U.S. Ceramic Company. He retired from the Civilian Conservation Corp in 1988, prior to which he had been employed by the Shanafelt Company. He was an avid handyman, gardener and enjoyed many years fishing, hunting and camping with his family. He and his wife became snowbirds living six months in Florida where they enjoyed an active lifestyle. He was a member of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church. He is preceded in death by one brother, Ed Mozie; two sisters, Louise Sall and Dolores Balk. Joseph is survived by his wife, Gloria Jean (Minnozzi) to whom he was married 74 years; one daughter, Janice Wright; one son, Robert “Bob” (Ann) Mozie; five grandchildren, Brian, Michael, Tommy, Robbie and Kim; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Frances (Alfred) Wakulchik. Keeping with his wishes, his cremains will be inurned in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a future date. Condolences or fond memories may be shared online at www.sandersfuneralhomes.com.
