Marian P. Orkis

Marian Patricia Orkis, age 99, of North Canton, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, May 21, 2026. She was born on May 29, 1926, in Canton, Ohio to the late Andrew Nicholas and Anna Victoria (Chuckery) Kovachik. She remained a lifelong member of the community.

Marian was a 1944 graduate of Timken High School, a member of the second graduating class. She dedicated twenty-two years of service as a librarian with Canton City Schools, where she was known for her kindness, patience, and love of learning. A member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Marian lived her faith through service and devotion to her family and community. In addition to her work in education, she assisted her late husband, Arthur, in operating Champ Business Builders, an advertising specialties business they worked in together until she was eighty-six years old.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty-nine years, Arthur Leonard Orkis, who passed away on December 28, 2015, as well as her parents and her brother Joseph Kovachik.

Marian leaves behind to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Pamela Orkis, Beverly Heimann, and Patricia (Russell) Giauque; along with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marian was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose kindness, faith, and love for her family will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Parish/St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 1530 11th St. S.E., Canton OH 44707, with Rev. Frederick "Fritz" Schlueter serving as celebrant. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, where Marian will be laid to rest beside her husband Arthur. Family and friends will be received the day prior and the day of her service, Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home and Thursday May 28, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
