Martha Simon, 88, of Bolivar, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on December 30, 2025. Born in Marietta, Ohio to the late Samuel and Elizabeth (Seyerle) Carver, Martha was a lifelong educator, nurse, and entrepreneur.
A dedicated student of healthcare, Martha received her nursing diploma from Massillon City Hospital, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Akron, and a Master of Education from Kent State University. Her 32-year career in nursing leadership and various medical organizations ended at Mercy Medical Center and was defined by her top-tier clinical expertise and a passion for mentorship. She left her work life to dedicate her time more fully to caring for her husband, Tom, the love of her life. The two became prominent local business owners, operating the family rentals, Simon’s Antiques and Wilkshire Banquet Center.
To her grandchildren, she was "Goggy," the woman who could fix anything and always reminded them that "it will all come out in the wash." Her days were often spent building intricate dollhouses which were publicly displayed and admired by all who saw them.
Martha was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Simon; along with her nine brothers and sisters, Betty, Irvin, Edward, David, Clarence, Richard, Alberta, Lloyd, and Larry.
She leaves behind a large, devoted family: her children, Thomas (Tina) Simon Jr., Steve Simon, and Cindy (Craig) Steffl; nine grandchildren, Derrick, Brock, Dalton, Anna Grace, Joseph, Rachel, Chase, Cody, and Jessica; great-grandchildren, Wesley, Colt, Easton, Luke, Harper, Ellie and Tate.
Known for her selfless nature and industrious spirit, Martha’s greatest joys were her family and her faith. She was a woman of bold conviction, generosity, and compassion.
Per Martha’s wishes, a private ceremony will be held for the family at Melscheimer Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest by her beloved husband. In lieu of flowers and to honor her spirit of giving, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, an organization that reflects Martha’s lifelong commitment to serving the Lord and helping those in need.
Arrangements are entrusted to Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home, 4041 Cleveland Ave S, Canton, OH 44707. Family and friends may offer condolences and share memories at:
