Mary E. Maher, age 78, of Canton, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Truman House in New Philadelphia, Ohio, surrounded by her family. She was born in Canton, Ohio, on March 8, 1946, to the late Albert and Martha (Oliver) White.
Mary was a graduate of McKinley High School and continued to support her “Bulldogs” her entire life. With her bubbly and caring personality, she excelled in sales for both Family Dollar stores and Schaffner's Trains, which later became Trains & Things. One phrase will always capture the hearts of her family and friends: “I love you to eternity,” which she always shared with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom she loved unconditionally.
Mary knew no strangers; she embraced everyone as a friend and would give her last possession to help anyone. She truly was an angel in disguise. The next time you sit in front of a crossword puzzle or hear Elvis or Willie Nelson, think of Mary, for these were some of the many things she enjoyed. She also loved her furry companions, Shadow, Bella, Nevaeh and Heaven, her treasured cat’s. If Mary had a favorite "sport," it would have been watching WWE, which she watched twice a week while cheering on her favorite wrestling star, "The Undertaker".
Mary is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Maher; daughter, Wanda (Wares) Householder; infant son James Waers; sister, Jenny Smith; and brother-in-law, David West.
Those left to cherish and fondly remember Mary’s memories are her children, Carol (Kenny) McCallister and Steve (Tracie) Waers; grandchildren, Tiffany McCallister, Aaron McCallister, and Herb Fogle; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Linda West and Patty (Gary) Bates; and brother, Ronnie White and numerous nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Mary’s wishes, a graveside inurnment service will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Louisville, Ohio, on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at 1:00pm with Pastor Danny Grine as officiant.
