Michael Dennis Baker, age 70, passed away on May 27, 2026 at Mercy Medical Center. He was born in Mount Carmel, Illinois, on July 7, 1955 to the late Claude and Elsie Baker. He graduated from East Canton High School before furthering his education in various trade programs.
Mike was a very talented songwriter and found great joy in performing all over the United States as well as internationally. His talents took him all the way to Africa. He was quite proud of his band, Wild Oats. Mike was especially gifted and could play many instruments such as several kinds of guitars, banjo, keyboard and harmonica. He was a firm believer in Jesus and his family finds comfort in that, knowing they will be reunited one day.
Mike wore many hats over the years. He worked with his father in their drilling business for numerous years alongside multiple family members. After his time there, he worked for Auburn as an OSHA Inspector.
He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish Mike's memories are his daughter, Nicole Osborne; granddaughter, Mahlee Pierce; siblings, Connie Sue (Brian) Gortney, Carla Jenson, Claude "Vern" Baker Jr., Vicki Bell and Roger Baker.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Billy Baker; nephews, Robert Jeffers and Jeremy Baker; niece, Paula Hendry; as well as numerous aunts and uncles.
The family wants to say a special thank you to those caregivers who helped Mike over the last couple of years, Alaa Ibrahim, Bonnie Powell, Diane Charlnoes-Lucas, Debra Goeden, Vern Baker Jr. and Connie Sue Gortney. The loving care you provided did not go unnoticed and we are forever grateful.
