Nancy J. Rainsberger

Nancy J. Rainsberger, age 87, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on September 16, 2026, after a difficult stretch of illness, carried with her usual grace. One of eight children born to the late Lawrence and Ruth Shepherd.

Throughout her life Nancy embraced many roles, but the ones she held closest to her heart were wife, mother, and grandmother. After many dedicated years at Metzger’s Ace Hardware store, she retired with the same quiet strength and kindness she brought to everything she did.

Nancy loved the simple joys — the salty breeze of a beach trip, the excitement of a casino visit, and the comfort of gathering around good food. Her cooking and baking were legendary, especially her cookies, which always held a little bit of her warmth in every bite. A devoted Guardians fan, Nancy cheered through nearly every game, celebrating the wins and staying loyal through the losses. But above all, Nancy shined brightest as a grandmother. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy, filling her days with laughter, pride, and memories she treasured deeply.

Nancy found a lifelong love with her husband, Jim — and their nearly 60 years together were a testament to quiet devotion and partnership. He was by her side always, offering love and compassion in every moment. In addition to Jim, she leaves behind her daughter, Ruth Anne (Michael) Frank; grandchildren, Carrie (Mike), Kelly, Mandy (Erik), Kristi (Josh), Josh, Danielle (Jason), Brett (Rachel), and Katie (Andy); 18 great-grandchildren, Blake, Brooke, Joe, Dylan, Taylor, Regan, DeAngelo, Daelynn, Daisy, Tomi, Menphis, Kristi Rae, Carter, Chase, Mason, Graham, Baker, and Breezy; siblings, Don (Shelly) Shepherd, Jerry Shepherd, Francie (Dave) Seaman, and Lynn (Wayne) Bessell; sisters-in-law, Trish and Sheila; brother and sister-in-law, Bill (Lynn) Rainsberger and Sue Roberts; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her sons, Ernie Sharp Jr. and Richard Sharp; and her siblings, Larry, Ronald, and Terry Shepherd.

Nancy was the kind of person whose presence made life softer, sweeter, and a lot more fun. She filled life with small surprises and warm laughter, the kind that made being around her feel like a gift. Her absence brings a sadness we cannot ignore, but the goodness she left in each of us is something we will carry forever. LYALY

Family and friends are invited to Nancy's memorial service on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at First Lutheran Church (909 E Tuscarawas Street, Canton, Ohio 44707) at 11am.
