Nancy Babik Snyder of East Sparta, OH, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Senior Living on November 10. Throughout her 90 years, Nancy held a deep faith in God, which guided her life and served as an inspiration to others. Nancy graduated from Canton South High School and was a proud Wildcat, attending class reunions throughout the years. Her greatest joy was being a member of a loving family. First as a daughter and sibling, and later as a wife, mother, and grandparent. Nancy relished time with her granddaughters and was delighted to see them become mothers this year. In her professional career, Nancy worked at Citizens Savings, Kiko Auctioneers, Western Kentucky University, and Aultman Hospital. In whatever she did, Nancy always contributed enthusiasm, an outstanding work ethic, and a luminous smile. She was a dedicated volunteer at the House of Loreto, lector and women’s group member at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and proudly served Pike Township as the Zoning Board Chair. Her legacy includes chairing the restoration of the one-room Melscheimer Schoolhouse, which she attended as a child. A perfect day for Nancy might include spending time with family and beloved friends, playing Bunco with her babes, gardening, or admiring the ocean.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Dorothy Harmon Babik, her husband of over 56 years, William Snyder; her sister, Bonnie Steele and husband, Ray; and son-in-law Tim Buchanan. She is survived by her siblings Marcia (Bob) Johnston, Tom (Nancy) Babik, and Pam (Charles) Kish.
She will be fondly remembered by daughters Beth (Dale) Jones, Joan Buchanan, Mary (Brian) McAlevy; granddaughters Shannon (Joey) Housey and Heather (Aaron) Warnick; great grandchildren Adeline Warnick and Carter Housey, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition, Nancy loved and was loved by multiple extended family members and special friends who became family. Her family is especially indebted to the caregivers at St. Joseph’s and Crossroads Hospice.
Family and friends may call at Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home, 4041 Cleveland Ave, SW, on Sunday, November 19, from 2 – 5 pm. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, November 20 at St. Michael the Archangel, 3430 St. Michaels Blvd NW, with internment at Melscheimer Cemetery to follow. A luncheon to celebrate Nancy’s life will be held at Spring Valley Golf Course immediately following graveside services.
