Phyllis M. Morrison, age 90, of East Sparta, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 10, 2026, surrounded by her family at Bethany Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was born on June 5, 1936, in Canton, Ohio, to the late Phillip and Helen (Glancy) McDermott. Phyllis remained a lifelong resident of Stark County.
Phyllis was a proud member of the Central Catholic High School Class of 1954. She was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton until its closing, after which she became a member of Guardian Angels Parish, where she attended St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Phyllis was a devoted wife and mother who dedicated her life to caring for her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the greatest joy in her life, and each held a special place in her heart.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Richard “Dick” D. Morrison; her son, Scott Morrison and her brother James McDermott.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two daughters and son-in-law, Cheryl Morrison and Dawn and Scott Harris; four grandchildren, Ryan (Thuy) Harris, Brendon (Jackie) Harris, Erin (Austin) Gortman, and AnnaSophia Harris; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Olivia Harris, Easton Gortman and Selena Harris.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. and on Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 8:30–9:30 a.m. at Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home. Following calling hours on Thursday, the funeral procession will proceed to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, located at 4940 Tuscarawas St. W., Canton, Ohio 44708, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., with Father Bryan Tutas as celebrant. Following Mass, Phyllis will be laid to rest beside her husband at Melscheimer Cemetery.
As Phyllis’ family finds comfort in their faith, they hold close the words of Jesus:
“I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, even though he dies, will live.”
— John 11:25
