Richard will be remembered for his kind heart, generous spirit, and wonderful sense of humor. He found joy in the simple things in life—camping at Atwood Lake, attending antique car shows (also collected a few), working in his yard, and spending time outdoors.

He especially treasured gatherings with family and friends and was always willing to lend a helping hand to neighbors. He never passed up an opportunity to enjoy a slice of pie, a cream stick, or a bowl of ice cream, and he loved sharing a good laugh with those around him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Zella M. Hershberger, whom he married on November 24, 1978; his daughter, Carol Sue Hershberger; his sister, Virginia (William) Kamerer; and his stepson, Jeffrey Miday.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Todd (Jennifer) Hershberger of Woodstock, Georgia; Rick (Kimm) Hershberger of Cary, North Carolina; Brian (Karen) Hershberger of Woodstock, Georgia; and Tiffany (Andy) Enright of Newnan, Georgia; his stepson, Richard (Janet) Miday of Malvern; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other family members, and dear friends.

Per Richard's wishes, there will be no public calling hours. An inurnment at Evergreen Memorial Gardens will be held on Saturday, September 5, at 10:30 a.m., allowing family and friends to gather in celebration of Richard's life.

Arrangements are entrusted to Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home, 4041 Cleveland Ave S, Canton, Ohio 44707. Family and friends may offer condolences and share memories at:
