Rita M. (Powell) Murphy
Age 93, passed away Tuesday June 29, 2010 in Mercy Medical Center. She was born November 3, 1916 in Fredericksburg, OH to the late Edward and Gertrude (Marthey) Hosfeld. She was a 1935 graduate of Fredericksburg High School and a graduate of Sayers Beauty School. She had served as a beautician until her marriage to William Powell when she began her family. She was also formerly employed by Timken Mercy Hospital for 10 years as a Nurses Aid and retired from Manor Care Nursing Home after 27 years and was named outstanding employee in 1973. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Canton for 65 years where she was a member of the Alter Rosary Society and the Senior Citizens Association. Rita was an avid bowler for 43 years having been a member of the Wharton Electric team that won the Women's City and Salem Tournament and the Pizza Oven Team. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, William Powell; second husband, Samuel Murphy; three brothers, Harry, Donald and Earl Hosfeld; one daughter, Charlene Powell; daughter-in-law, Sharon Powell; granddaughter, Shelby Powell; one sister, Marcelene Hosfeld. She is survived by one daughter, Penny (Tony) Satterly of Magnoila; one son, William Powell of Fairbanks, AK; one granddaughter, Diane M. Conner of the home; five grandsons, Robert Jr., William and Frank Villella all of Canton, Joseph (Kerry) Villella of East Sparta, Scott (Karen) Powell of Fairbanks, AK; a special friend, Corey Fales; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Audrey Hasson of Columbus; one brother, Gerald Hosfeld of Wooster; sister-in-law, Mary Hosfeld of Groveport, OH; many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday July 3, 2010 at 10:00 a.m., in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Fr. Benson Okpara as celebrant. Interment in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Friday 5-8pm in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church Food Pantry.
