Ruth E. Lehmann, age 100, of East Canton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Danbury of Massillon, surrounded by her family.
She was born on September 4, 1925, in Osnaburg Township, Ohio, to the late Zenas and Mabel (Fink) Lowery and remained a lifelong member of the East Canton community.
A 1944 graduate of East Canton High School, Ruth dedicated herself first and foremost to her family as a caring wife, mother, and homemaker. Later in life, she worked for 13 years as a cook in the Osnaburg Local Schools cafeteria, where she enjoyed serving generations of local students. Ruth was a faithful member of East Canton St. Paul's Church of Christ, later known as St. Paul's Community Christian Church of East Canton, and was also an active member of the Robertsville Grange.
Her life reflected the words of 2 Timothy 4:7-8:
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord... will award to all who have longed for His appearing."
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 47 years, Gottfried E. Lehmann, who passed away on August 30, 2014; and her brother, Donald Lowery.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Eileen and Mike Wile of Perry Township; her step-grandchildren, Brandon (Leslie) Wile and Kelsey (Eli) Rose; special great-granddaughter, Maxine Wile, who brought Ruth great joy; along with extended family and friends who will cherish her memory.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, from 10am until 12pm at Sanders Funeral Home (218 Nassau Street E, East Canton, Ohio 44730). Her funeral service will begin at 12pm. Ruth will then be laid to rest beside her husband in Robertsville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ruth's memory to St. Paul's Community Christian Church of East Canton, 306 Church St. W., East Canton, OH 44730.
