Ruth Irene Bechtel Miller
Age 99, died Sunday September 30, 2012 at Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg, PA where she had resided since 1997. Ruth was born July 9, 1913 in Canton to the late Aaron D. and Rosa (Teeter) Bechtel. She was the widow of Daniel A. Miller who died June 5, 1994 several months after celebrating 60 years of marriage. Ruth was a Canton area resident for more than 80 years and was actively involved with Valley Chapel Brethren in Christ Church. She was a homemaker and was employed by her husband's heating business, A.E. Schwab Company in Louisville and by Canton Soft Water Company. Ruth was a voracious reader, enjoyed traveling and loved being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a dedicated caregiver for her husband after he lost his sight and mobility. On her 91st birthday she took a long-wished-for hot air balloon ride. A year later her grandson took her on a motorcycle ride. One of her joys at Messiah Village was going on the mystery bus rides. She greatly appreciated the loving care given to her by the Messiah Village staff and especially the care given by her daughter Arlene in Ruth's latest years. In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth is preceded in death by a grandson, Douglas K. Hess; brother, Leonard A. Bechtel; three half-brothers, Harry, George and Howard Bechtel. She is survived by five children and their spouses, Arlene Betty Miller of Mechanicsburg, PA, Esther Ruth and Roy Hess of Lancaster, PA, Galen Daniel and Joan Miller of Louisville, Lewis Paul and Joanne Miller of Roswell, GA, Sarah Jane and Carlos Mason of Louisville; one brother, Vernon E. Bechtel of Youngtown, AZ; twelve grandchildren, Jeanne Bye, Keith Miller, Kenneth Miller, Rebecca Steffy, Peter Hess, Michael Mason, Carla Miller, Audrey Bennett, Philip Hess, Stephen Miller, Troy Mason and Jeffrey Mason; twenty-three great-grandchildren, Jonna, Joshua, Caleb, Christine, Micah, Esther, Ezra, Samuel, Ruth, Darby, John D., Teyah, Brayden, Alex, Daniel, Lauren, Natalie, Sarah, John E., Graham, Timothy, Luke and Derek. Funeral services will be Friday October 5, 2012 at 10:00am in the Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton with Rev. Orion Aubihl officiating. Interment in Valley Chapel Cemetery.
