Terry L. Potter, age 78 of East Sparta, passed away peacefully at Rose Lane Care Center on Friday, July 31, 2026. He was born on October 07, 1947, in Canton, Ohio to the late Donald G. and Dorothy J. (White) Potter.
Terry was a 1966 graduate of Perry High School, shortly after graduating high school he elected to join the United States Army. Terry proudly served his country and received honorably valor during his time. He was part of the 1st Cavalry, and he received a Purple Heart.
Terry returned home after the military and spent most of his life working at The Timken Company as a railroad operator where he retired after 31 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and most importantly spending time with his family.
Terry was the past District Commander of the American Legion and past Commander of the Isaac L. Kinney American Legion Post 244 of East Sparta for over 20 years. He was also was a member of the VFW, DAV, Combat Infantry Men’s Association, 12th Cavalry Regiment Association and Vietnam Veterans of America and the North Industry Sportsman Club.
Terry is preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Lisa M. Isom.
Those left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of over 58 years, who he married on March 2, 1968, Brenda D. (Griffin) Potter; his daughter, Lynette (Paul) Hunt; brothers, Gary (Karen) Kirsch and Donald (David) Potter; sisters, Sue Dedmon and Donna Umstead; grandchildren, Jessica Potter, Kyle (Tessa) Isom and Mary Hunt; great-grandchildren, Kaelyn, Taylor, Brynna, Raegan, Kash and Jasper; several nieces and nephews, and his longtime hunting buddy Steve Gartrell.
Friends and family may pay their respects on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home, 4041 Cleveland Ave S., Canton, OH and the next day on Thursday August 6, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., his funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Isaac L. Kinney American Legion Post 244, P.O. Box 126, East Sparta, Ohio 44626.
