Timothy I. Miller, age 81 of Canton, Ohio, passed away Monday, June 10, 2024, at Aultman Compassionate Care. He was born September 25, 1942, to George and Mary E. (Stull) Miller. Tim was a 1960 Canton South High School graduate and received his bachelor’s degree in education from Ohio Northern University.
Tim retired in 1993 after 29 years of service with Canton Local Schools. During that time, he served as Canton South’s head baseball coach, with a total record of 404 wins and 244 losses. Coach Miller’s teams won the regional title four times, won the Federal League eight times, and earned one NBC Championship. In 2005 he retired from the Pro Football Hall of Fame after 13 years of service.
Tim was very active in the community; he was a member of the Canton South Rotary Club as well as a member of the Hall of Fame Luncheon Club. A few of his notable achievements were being inducted into the Stark County Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in 1987 and the Ohio High School Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991. Selected as Stark County Coach of the Year in 1975 and 1993, while also being inducted into the Canton South Hall of Distinction in 2023. Tim was honored by the Canton Local Schools naming its baseball stadium after him.
Preceding Tim in death are his parents George and Mary E. (Stull) Miller.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife; Jill (Syler) Miller, whom he married in 1964; sons Scott (Kathy) Miller, Matt (Beth) Miller; daughter Sheri (Cory) Davies; grandchildren Madison (Tatum) Littleton, Morgan, Mackenzie, Peyton, Parker, Jordan (Isaiah) Long, Clayton and Miller; brothers Ron (Cindy) Miller and Mark (Barb) Miller; sister Lynn (Bill) Wood; sisters-in-laws Linda Bayda and Christine Brady and many nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call Monday, June 17th from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the Canton South High School Performing Arts Center, please enter through door 4. A service of Christian Burial, with Father Donald King as officiant, will be held the following day at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m., 2427 Tuscarawas St. W Canton, OH 44708 with visitation one hour prior to the service. Per Tim’s wishes there will be no burial.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Tim Miller Scholarship supporting Canton South baseball programs, 7490 Roni St. SW Massillon, OH 44646.
