Verna M Lann

Olmsted Township, Ohio – Verna M. (Neisel) Lann, 86, of Cook Road, died at home in the arms of loved ones on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, after battling lung cancer for the past three years. She was the daughter of Fred C. and Blanche E. (Hoobler) Neisel; she was born Oct. 24, 1937, in Magnolia. She had been a resident of Olmsted Township since 1962.

Verna was a member of the Canton South High School Class of 1955 and a 1956 graduate of Central Technical Institute of Kansas City, Mo. In 1993, she retired from United Airlines as an operations agent, after working 37 years with the company at airports in Washington, D.C., and Cleveland. She was a past member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Grafton.

Keeping a daily personal journal faithfully for many years, Verna also dug deeply into her family’s genealogy and recorded the anecdotes and stories of numerous relatives. She said the things she loved most in the world were “family, airplanes and country music.” She also enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles.

Those left to cherish her memories are her sons, Gerald L. Scafe of Olmsted Township and Christopher K. Lann, and his wife Jennifer N. Lann, of Brattleboro, Vt.; a sister, Glenda Hughson of Canton; five grandchildren, Kelli M. Parks of Midlothian, Va., Krysten A. Loving of North Chesterfield, Va., Jordan T. Scafe of Parma Heights, and Ember and Sacha Lann, both of Brattleboro, Vt.; two great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Luke Parks, both of Midlothian, Va.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Verna was preceded in death by a son, Galen R. “Randy” Scafe, who died in 2012, as well as her beloved brother-in-law, David N. “Skip” Hughson Jr., in 2023, and ex-husbands Gregory P. Lann and Theodore L. Scafe.

Verna’s Funeral Services will be on Friday, September 6, 2024 at 12:00 pm with Rev. Timothy Prince, pastor of Wildwood Chapel in Mapleton, officiating. Friends may call 2 hours prior to her funeral service from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. All services will be held at Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation be made in Verna’s name to the charity of your choice.
