Alton Buddy Auvil

June 23, 1941 — April 13, 2023

Alton “Bud” Auvil, age 81, passed away on April 13, 2023.

He was born on June 23, 1941, in St. George, WV to Robert Lee and Virgie (Poling) Auvil. Before the age of 18, Bud moved to Canton, OH to find work and a better life, following in the footsteps of several of his siblings.

Like two of his brothers, Jim and Ralph, Bud went to work for The Timken Company in Canton, starting his employment in 1959.  He was a union laborer in the Gambrinus Bearing Plant and a member of the United Steelworkers Golden Lodge Local 1123. Early during his employment there, he met and later married Frankie Ann “Rose” Edwards, and together they raised three sons.

After dedicated service of more than 30 years at Timken, Bud retired in 1991. He remained in Canton following retirement and spent time with friends, family and loved ones, often over a cup of McDonald’s coffee. He was known for his inquisitiveness, good humor, kindness, and generosity. In retirement, he did charitable work to help the poor, including volunteering for Goodwill and the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. He was also a man of deep religious faith.  He was a member of several churches during his life, including Trinity Gospel Temple in Canton when he passed.

Bud loved his family very much, and he spoke to his family members often. Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Alton B. Auvil, Jr. of Charlotte, NC; Steven (Elise) Auvil of Bay Village, OH and Kevin Auvil of Stow, OH; brother Alfred “Dale” of Canton; granddaughters, Tatum, Shelby and Marissa Auvil; and grandsons, Zachary and Jacob.  Other surviving family members also grieve his loss.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Samuel “Jim”, Robert “Ralph”, and Ronald “Ronnie”; sisters, Louella “Faye” (Metz), Sandra, and Shirley.
