Carl R. McCollum

March 26, 1937 ~ March 24, 2023 (age 85) 85 Years Old


Carl R. McCollum, age 85, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Friday, March 24, 2023.

He was born March 26, 1937 in Chester, WV to Willard and Elizabeth (Steed) McCollum. Carl was a 1957 graduate of Canton South High School and served his country in the Marines.  He worked for Consolidated Freightways for many years. Carl was a member of Northwest Church of Christ. He enjoyed wood carving, gardening, fishing but especially spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Carol (Arthur) McCollum; children, Susan (Rick) Brown, Cheryl (Jim) Cook, Sarah McCollum, Daniel McCollum and Audra McCollum; sisters, Beverly Ryan and Linda (Ronnie) Stallman; brother, Alton McCollum; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Erina (McCollum) Dews; sisters, Joan Boyd and Jannette Swain.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 30th from 5-7pm at Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home.   A funeral service will be held Friday, March 31st, at 11am at the funeral home with Pastors John Wright and Keith Kull officiating.  Carl will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Cemetery in East Sparta.
