Donald G. “Smitty” Smith Jr.
Age 81, of Magnolia, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday July 26, 2022 in his home following an extended illness. He was born May 26, 1941 in Canton to the late Donald G. Sr. and Geraldine (Mead) Smith. Don was a 1959 graduate of Perry High School. He retired from The Timken Steel Company in 1999 after 35 years of service. He was a member of Little Country Church and the United Steel Workers Union Local #1123 for 35 years. Don was a man of deep faith; his greatest joy was his family and many dear friends. He was an accomplished fabricator, custom painter, hot rod builder and was highlighted in publications for his monster truck build. He was a farmer, pilot and a man of many talents. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Carol L. (Loschert) Smith in 2017; one brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Wanda Smith; one granddaughter, Alice Bowman; his canine companion, “Dusty”. Don is survived by three children, Julie Richards, Scott (Julie Harwig) Smith and Heather Smith (J.T.); nine grandchildren, Tuesday, John, Jessica, Alexus, Sarah, Lance, Logan, Zachery and Christopher; 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Jeff (Joan) Smith; one sister, Barb (Tom) Cannell; many extended family members and good friends. A celebration of Don’s life will be Wednesday August 3, 2022 at 7:00pm in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home with Mark Wells officiating. Friends and family will be received two hours before services on Wednesday (5-7pm). A private family inurnment will be Thursday in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens.
